The Fine Arts Department, through the Office of National Museum, Thailand is organizing an exhibition for Thai Museum Day 2024 under the theme “150 Years of Thai Museums: Siam Civilized: A Passage to Wisdom” from September 19 to 21, 2024, at the Siwamokkhapiman Throne Hall, National Museum Bangkok. This event celebrates the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Museum by King Chulalongkorn, which opened to the public on September 19, 1874.
The “Thai Museum” is a vital part of national history, showcasing the Siamese commitment to knowledge and collective development towards a civilization comparable to other nations. This event provides a special opportunity for museum professionals and enthusiasts to exchange insights and share creative experiences, ensuring that museums function as enduring institutions of knowledge for the Thai public and society.
Furthermore, this celebration of the 150th anniversary of Thai museums also serves as a valuable occasion for museum workers nationwide to unite, demonstrating their strength and creativity in advancing museum practices in Thailand.
The activities within the event include:
1. Exhibition: A special exhibition for Thai Museum Day 2024 titled “From First Collections to Museums: The Journey of Collections,” in collaboration with 24 network museums, showcasing 71 items from the earliest collections of these museums.
2. Stage: A series of seminars and academic lectures aimed at exchanging knowledge and exploring the development of museum practices, featuring 42 esteemed speakers, including experts, executives, and practitioners from the Thai museum network.
3. Fair: An exhibition of technology and innovations, along with the sale of souvenirs from 20 network museums across the country.
