Empowering the Future of Thai Museums Together: Thai Museum Day 2025

Mr. Phanomput Chantrachoti, Director-General of the Fine Arts Department, presided over the opening ceremony of the Thai Museum Day 2025 activities under the theme “The Future of Thai Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities: อนาคตของพิพิธภัณฑ์ไทย การเปลี่ยนแปลงของสังคมอย่างรวดเร็ว”, held at the Issarawinitchai Throne Hall, National Museum Bangkok. The event was organized in commemoration of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who laid the foundation for museum-based public learning in Thailand.

This year’s program was developed under the conceptual framework of “The Future of Thai Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities” to promote the museum sector in Thailand through knowledge exchange, sharing of experiences, and constructive opinions from museum professionals in governmental, monastic, and private institutions. These collaborative contributions serve as a crucial force in shaping the future direction of Thai museums. The discussions and activities focus on three key topics:

  1. Safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage
  2. Empowering youth potential and engagement
  3. Application of new technologies to foster learning in museums

Various network organizations and partner museums joined in presenting visions and strategies for advancing Thai museums through lectures, academic discussions, workshops, and a creative product fair supporting the museum sector. In addition, the Night Museum program offered the public a rare opportunity to experience the National Museum Bangkok during nighttime, introducing a unique and refreshing perspective on museum visits.

The event aims to provide participants and museum professionals with opportunities to learn, exchange ideas, and develop management approaches responsive to contemporary challenges. Museums across Thailand are expected to strengthen cooperation and operations toward greater resilience and sustainability. Most importantly, these efforts reaffirm the museum’s role as a valuable learning resource accessible to all members of the public.
